Course Details

The course enables trainees to become competent to drive MEWPs safely and in the correct manner.

An IPAF PAL card is recognised by the HSE, CITB, HAE and the Major Contractors Group (MCG). It also satisfies the Work at Height Regulations 2005 and the PUWER regulations 1998.

IPAF’s eLearning provides a flexible and enhanced online learning experience. It provides the same high-quality theory training as in the classroom and can be completed on a range of devices anytime, anywhere, at your own pace.

Our IPAF Operator courses instruct how to prepare and safely use various types of access platforms, including scissor and boom lifts. You will be trained in the correct operation of the equipment, how to carry out a pre-inspection, emergency descent operations as well as being given an understanding of employers and employees responsibilities.




IPAF’s E- Learning Training Operators is available for all MEWP categories (1b, 3a & 3b) and takes around three hours to complete. The eLearning is broken down into manageable sections that you can complete at your own pace and can save and resume your training at any time. Upon successful completion of your eLearning, to complete your training you must attend one of our training centres to complete your practical assessment.

Anyone who operates a mobile elevating work platform requires a PAL card and this must be renewed every 5 years. Over 90,000 MEWP operators are trained every year worldwide through IPAF’s network of approved training centres.

This theory element of IPAF Operator courses can be taken remotely as an e-learning option reducing the time spent at our training centre to around half a day. You will need access to either a computer with a web cam, or a tablet with camera to be able to complete the theory part of the test remotely using the e-learning option. The practical part of the course will still need to be completed at one of our training centres.

The Powered Access License card (PAL), that is given upon passing the course, is recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the Major Contractors Group (MCG) and is valid for 5 years.

The course is recognised by CITB and HAE and satisfies the Work at Height Regulations 2005 and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER).

Delegates should be physically fit and able to bring along safety shoes, hard hat and gloves for the practical part of the training. A full body safety harness with adjustable restraint lanyard and proof of inspection within the last 12 months must be brought with the delegate on the day of training for 1b and 3b categories.

Tea and coffee will be provided throughout the day on all courses at all of our training centres.  Please note that lunch is not provided.

Courses cancelled less than 7 days prior to the course date but exceeding 48 working hours will incur a 50% charge. Courses cancelled less than 48 working hours before the course date will incur full payment. Premier Platforms, reserves the right to cancel a training course at any time due to unforeseen circumstances. Should a course be cancelled alternative dates will be offered or a full refund given.
